Piles of rocks

As I wandered around the ruins of Heiropolis in Turkey, and reflected on my visits to a few other ruins, I couldn’t help but think that the works of archeologists are rather unappreciated.

Working behind the scenes, archeologists bring history to life, providing insight into former civilizations and brilliant places to wander for a few hours, imagining life as it may have been centuries previous.

Their works creating tourist attractions and generating revenue for host countries. Yet with limited funds.  And limited time to turn these piles of rocks in to something spectacular.

And as I sat there, I could only wish archeology were taught in elementary and secondary school curricula so curious minds such as mine would have considered this as a career path.  (Although I do quite LOVE working in public relations!)
